I wanted to share some pictures of the road trip mom went to without me. The first stop was in Alabama, but the first picture is in a place called Leesburg in Florida. Mom said they couldn't drive more than 4 hours the first night because they were tired.
The second day they were determined to get to the planned destination so they only stopped in Crackel Barrel to have lunch, near a town called "Swampy grass" according to mom, or "Grassy pond" according to dad. Anyway, it was in Georgia.
Mom wished she could have stopped in Atlanta for a while but they were so tired they just wanted to get to a hotel to sleep.
They arrived to Talladega, Alabama later in the afternoon. The next day they visited the area after visiting grandpa for a while.
The most important feature about Talladega is that there are a couple of things that reminded mom of me:
And some little furry creatures:
Mom loved the essence of the place. Many buildings were, or at least looked abandoned and mom felt sorry because it seems that there is not much activity in downtown; but at the same time the old buildings have a lot of personality and mom appreciates that in a city.
Dad and the kids, on the other hand, hated the place. They said it was boring and sad, so mom didn't have a chance to get down of the car. All the pictures were taken while they were driving around!
Other things mom loved about Alabama were the hills and the trees and vegetation. They were so beautiful! And the weather was cold but very nice. It is weird for mom to say that, but she felt that the cold air was very refreshing.
Mom wished she could have visited Birmingham - only an hour away - but again, there was no time and they were tired!
They went back on the road on Monday morning.

Happy hump day, everyone!

There really were some nice buildings. Shame they seem to be abandoned, though
Nice trip...too bad you didn´t get to go!
Hi Coco, my darling! Thank you so much for showing me all of these fun pictures! I just love them!
They would be MUCH cuter, though, if your face were in them!! :)
Hey Coco! Thanks for sharing the pics. We lives in Birmingham but we's never been that race car town. Thanks for sharing pics!
I hopes next trip to Alabama you gets to go and you can come to the 'ham. We's got the Pig (piggly wiggly) here too!
Pretty pictures! We want to go on a Southern roadtrip.
Coco, when you say cold, what kind of temps are we talkin'? :)

Hey I know Leesburg, right around my neck of the woods! :) Thanks for sharing!
It is too bad that those old buildings were abandoned. Mom bets that it must have been very pretty when the economy was better.
We are glad you are back. We missed you.

wow, what nice photos! i love that big white house with the big porch. that sounds like the road trips with my hubby, he tells me to point out where i want to stop, for lunch or to pee, and as soon as i point he zooms past and then it's "do you want me to turn around and go back?" and before you know it you're five miles down the road!
hugs,

:o)
Leesburg isn't far from where I used to live!
Isn't it amazing how much the landscape changes... when you travel for just a few hundred miles?
Since I live in Alabama...I can agree with you. It's VERY green and lush here...with lovely weather and it's just wonderful. I love the people and the place. Too bad we weren't able to visit!

Yes Coco, how cold is too cold? :) haha
It sounds like you guys had a fun trip, I can't wait to see more pictures!
I know what your mom means about those abandoned buildings - they have so much character and it makes you sad that they no longer serve a purpose.
I'm from North Carolina and a lot of the towns down there look like that now. My parents have even taken the time to do historical preservations and restorations of some old buildings in NC, but there are just too many...
